Why We Publish Our Production Times (Misses and All)

By Nadia Okafor, Production Lead, Foundry Print Co. · May 28, 2026

Most print-on-demand companies quote a production window wide enough to never technically be wrong — 'ships in 2 to 10 business days' is a promise you can't break and can't trust. We do the opposite: the fulfillment page on this site lists the real production time for every product line, next to the percentage of last quarter's orders that actually hit it.

The honest version costs us something. When bulk-run on-time performance dipped to 96.5% during the spring corporate-gifting rush, that number went on the page while it was still true. What it buys is better than marketing: customers who plan around real dates, and a production floor that treats the published number as a promise with its name on it.

Here's what the numbers mean in practice. 'Proof same day' means a human looks at your file and either sends a digital proof or flags a problem before we burn a blank on it. 'Production' starts when you approve the proof, not when you order — the clock we publish is the clock we control. Shipping transit stacks on top, and the checkout shows both so nobody has to do carrier math on a napkin.

The other thing transparency changed is how we fail. When an order is going to miss its window — a dye lot arrives wrong, a printer head clogs mid-run — the system emails you the same day with the new date, before you'd have thought to ask. A missed date you learn about early is a plan; a missed date you discover by tracking a stalled package is a betrayal.

If you're comparing print partners for a launch or a corporate order, ask each of them one question: what percentage of last quarter's orders shipped inside the quoted window? Anyone running a real floor knows that number to the decimal. Anyone who answers with a shrug is quoting you the 2-to-10-day kind of promise.
